IT MAY NOT BE LONG BEFORE YOUR HYDRO BILL
IS THREE OR MORE TIMES WHAT IT IS NOW.

In Vancouver in 2006, an energy consumption rate of 1000 MWh/month was billed at a cost of $97.00, about $10.00/MWh. In San Francisco in the same year, the same energy consumption was billed at $320.00/month. In Boston, it was $361.00. The reason our hydro has been so inexpensive is that we have owned the generating assets. Without public consultation, the BC government has changed that.
Although BC Hydro is still public on the surface, the energy system is being privatized, and BC Hydro transformed into a purchaser of power from private suppliers.

Foundation Skills Assessment Tests

Teachers in British Columbia are opposed to Foundation Skill Assessment tests. They want the public to understand why, and are asking parents to support quality education by actively opposing these tests. For information on the issue and to find out what you can do, go to www.bctf.ca/fsa.aspx.

Bill 33

In 2006, the BC government placed class size and composition limits in legislation. Although this was a small step in the right direction, implementation has not brought substantial change, partly because the limits were not funded. For more information:

The Community Action  Coalition of Burnaby is a  grassroots organization  that started when a  small group of people  from local groups and  unions decided to work  together to improve the  quality of life for  increasing numbers of  citizens who were and  are experiencing  hardship.

Recognizing the role of  government policy in the  challenges people face in  their daily lives, we put  our energy into raising  awareness and building  support for new  approaches. We work  towards long term  systemic change.

We address a wide range  of issues, and regularly  establish priority  campaigns based on  concerns brought to our  table by participants.

We collaborate with  other groups both locally  and provincially,  providing mutual support  for common goals.

If you share our  concerns, and would like  to be active as a  change-maker, you are  invited to join us.  Membership is free of  charge.
