December, 2007 - B.C. Child Poverty Report Card

Dear friends and partners of First Call,

Please find attached the 2007 Child Poverty Report Card for BC, released this morning at First Call’s press conference.  The report has already generated a lot of media buzz, and we hope it will continue to do so with your help.  We’ve attached a sample letter that you can send as a letter to the editor and/or your MP and MLA in support of setting targets to reduce child poverty in BC and across the country. You can personalize the letter with you own experience of the impacts of poverty on children and families in BC. Please let us know of any media coverage on this issue that you see in your community, and take a moment to add your voice to the growing concern about this issue and ask the provincial and federal governments to start taking action now.

We have created a video about child poverty which includes the challenge by Michael Goldberg, chair of First Call to Premier Campbell to reduce child poverty or donate his $65,200 raise to the child and family-serving charity of his choice. Watch the video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrJYuBRw8EI
