Nigeria: Campaign against Violence and
Discrimination
The fact that value conflicts are embedded with issues that arise on
account of unhealthy distinction, restriction, exclusion, and preferences
is not a controversial perspective, but the inability of members of the
society to manage the challenges posed by the tendencies exhibited by some
advocates of those discriminatory values is the issue in contention. The
chances of deepening the divide between advocates of a particular value
increases because of certain factors. To read the rest of this article,

Social justice, inside-out
To the outsider, David Kahane's third-year philosophy course at the
University of Alberta seems more like a spiritual healing temple. In a
way, it is. At the start of every class, Kahane has his students meditate.
Everyone closes their eyes and the room falls completely silent, except
for Kahane's calm, soothing voice. To read the rest of the article, please

Environment: Indonesia’s green madrassas
In a remote part of Central Java, Indonesia’s most populous island,
there is a rather unusual form of environmentalism taking root. Shadowed
by the great Merapi volcano and surrounded by fertile fields of rice and
sugarcane, a small school is graduating environmentalists whose commitment
to the earth is not based on Western conservation texts but rather
predicated in values derived from Islam. The head of the school, Nasruddin
Anshari, frequently uses the refrain “one earth, for all”, just as much as
he does the usual Islamic invocation of Allah-u Akbar (God is
Great). You can find the full article at: https://tcmail1.tc.columbia.edu/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2008%255C01%255C19%255Cstory_19-1-2008_pg3_5
