Across the province people agree that the BC Liberal Government is mismanaging our streams, rivers, and the clean power they can generate. Selling off the rights to produce power from BC's streams and rivers through 40-plus-year water license agreements is in no one's best interest. Selling control of our waterways is a huge issue in itself, but the government is not even getting a good price on the valuable and environmentally friendly power being produced from BC's streams and rivers. If it wasn't water, we would call it a fire sale! The NDP opposition introduced the Water Resource Protection Act in the BC Legislature on April 18, 2007 and no matter what your political preference is, this Act is worth supporting as the first step towards responsible management of our streams, rivers, and the clean power they can generate. Hopefully, the BC Liberal Government will listen. Please take five minutes to read our full S.O.S. article. And learn more about: * Water licenses * The Water Resource Act * How you can ensure BC responsibly manages our streams and rivers for generations to come. BC Hydro - A Part of our History, A Part of our Future The history of BC Hydro and the many hard working British Columbians who built it-which stretches from 1860 to today-is intertwined with the history of our great province. Likewise, the future of BC Hydro can continue to play a significant role in shaping the future of our communities and our lives as British Columbians. We want BC Hydro to have a long future providing clean and affordable energy to BC. However, Take Back the Power believes that we all can learn a lot from the history of BC Hydro as the public corporation that helped build our province. That's why we will be introducing a new regular article to our Knowledge is Power e-newsletter, titled Hydro's Proud History. Every month Hydro's Proud History will bring you a story from our public power corporation's rich and proud past to help us appreciate the hard work of those who built one of the largest and most affordable public electric utility companies in the world. The first Hydro History article will be in your inbox in one month! Do you know an idea for a history story we should cover?
